Seamonkey 2.8
I want to have close buttons on all tabs, active or not. I would be
grateful for an about:config or userChrome.css tweak.
With SeaMonkey, the current tab can be closed via the X button at the
far right of the tab bar. With Thunderbird, each tab has its own X
button for closing it.
After experiencing both, I prefer the way SeaMonkey does it. I am less
likely to close a tab accidentally when trying clumsily to select the
tab to its right.
Yes, there are times when horizontal real estate becomes a limited resource, and
I would rather have the space. As you say, you could hit it by accident,
although I can't remember doing that when I have used Firefox due to no
Seamonkey on a machine. Having a choice in config would be nice, if someone
wanted it to be perfect you could set some minimum number of characters of tab
name to display, say 10, and if there was less room than ten characters the
close icon would go away.
I am aware that it means rechecking on every tab open/close and window resize,
I'm just saying that in case some developer gets the idea to really "do it
right" and likes the idea. For cases where tabs get narrow it would be nice if
hovering the mouse on the tab displayed the subject rather than the newsgroup
name (for NNTP, obviously).
Again, I'm okay with what's there, but I understand the request.

we persevere we will reach our destination. -me, 2010
