I use the localised Dutch (NL) version of Seamonkey 2.10.1
Inbox shows up in Dutch as *Postvak In* I use POP3

Then this could be the reason that you see the bug.

I first noticed this bug in SM 2.9 or 2.9.1, not quite sure.

So far i have only SM 2.10 localized,

Some people claim that the collapsed folder pane only appears when you
start Seamonkey with the -mail setting, but I never used that setting.

I have now tested this. A little. Starting 2.10 with -mail shows the bug
every time. Starting SM with -browser and then opening MailNews shows
the bug never. But starting SM with -browser -mail is special. Then the
bug appears modulo 2. *g*

start 1: bug
start 2: no bug
start 3: bug
start 4: no bug

etc.

I normally start Seamonkey the browser and later switch (Window) to
email and see the wrong collapsed folderpane with the (-) sign.
Clicking the (-) once I get the normal (+) sign.

There is neither (+) nor (-) sign here. What theme are you using?

I currently use Seamonkey Default Theme.
(-) and (+) is the way Windows XP shows it. Vista and Windows 7 show
triangles.

In your screenshot (SM Linux) I also see little triangles.
GMX: triangle pointing downwards = expanded,
Local Folders: triangle pointed sideways = collapsed.

But in windows XP this is different.
to summarize in Windows XP: (+) = collapsed, (-) = expanded

So it's OS depended.
