So, I tried following your advice re. importing them back into SM.
However, I cannot find a Bookmarks Manager on my hard drive, and the
tools-import section only lists mail, etc., but not bookmarks and not HTML.

Open the browser of SM, then Ctrl+B or Bookmarks->Manage Bookmarks. In
the Bookmarks Manager then Tools->Import HTML or Export HTML.

Hi Hartmut and Group,

I finally was able to restore this newsgroup after a chrome infection wiped out all my newsgroups.

I tried your advice as above, and when trying to import HTML my PC could find neither bookmarks nor bookmarks.html, even though there certainly is a bookmarks folder on my hard drive, with all my bookmarks in linear text format. I therefore cannot import these bookmarks into SM.This is in my netbook used outside the home.

In my main laptop PC, an uninvited Chrome infection wiped out all my newsgroups and my e-mail local sent folder. It also stopped all my incoming and outgoing e-mails, but I was able to reconstruct the settings including ports, and restored those.

When I updated my Avast antivirus software, I specifically unchecked the box that allows downloading of the Chrome browser. Yet, it did download, ruined many parts of my H.D. and put over 100 Chrome folders onto my H.D., many of which cannot be deleted. Is this a malicious plan of Google?

I'm sorry if this message is too long, but I have no one else to seek help from.

Thank you.

Mort Linder
