Lately I have been having trouble accessing selected web sites with my
Regular profile. If I use the Default profile, I have no problem. What I
would like to do is copy all of my Mail and Newsgroup settings to the
Default profile, delete my Regular profile and then rename Default to
Regular.

Is that possible or is there another way to clean up my Regular profile of
all the crap I may have added over the years?

I recently did this.

Copy from old profile to new:

- all *.mab address books
- ImapMail and Mail folders
- chrome folder (if you have customized userChrome.css and/or userContent.css
- News folder
- all *.sqlite files
- key3.db
- localstore.rdf
- mailviews.dat
- mimeTypes.dat
- panels.rdf
- secmod.db
- training.dat
- URL.tbl

Close SM

Open the prefs.js files for both profiles.

Copy from old to new prefs.js:

all lines beginning - user_pref("ldap_2
all lines beginning - user_pref("mail
all lines beginning - user_pref("mailnews

There are some other lines you could copy that would retain some of your other customizations. But, if you're having trouble with a profile this method is the minimal to migrate your mail and news info.

You can also enter "about:config" (no quotes) in the location bar and hit Enter. Then sort by clicking the column header "Status". That will easily show you which prefs have been "user set". Unfortunately, I don't know of any way to print or save the page. In the past I've taken screen shots to record my "user set" prefs.

Do NOT copy any prefs having to do with extensions or plugins. You'll have to install extensions in the new profile.

I think that's about it but if I forgot something I'm sure someone else will chime in. ;-)
