Okay. I /may/ have sorted this out.
I have 7 email accounts, two news servers, and 10 newsgroups in my SM
profile.
After pondering this, I staggered when each checked for new messages.
That is, by example:
email1: every 3 minutes
email2: every 5 minutes
email3: every 7 minutes
...
etc.
Instead of having them all check every three minutes.
This seems to have stopped the horrible problem of SM hannging.
I'm just guesing that having them all gear up and check the server at
the same time was the problem.
FYI: In these email accounts there are three different mail servers.
In the news groups there are two servers involved.
Not sure if this is the answer but if it can help the others who seem to
have had the same issue ...
But, I now longer seem to have the issues I have before, e.g. typing for
20 seconds with nothing appearing and having the keyboard buffered etc.
only to appear later.
Now that you mention it, Ed......
On one of my UseNet servers, I have about 40-45 groups, and when I
expand the server, the computer does tend to lock up whilst addressing
the server and updating the "Unread" and "Total" figures.
So, if I think about it, I try to expand the UseNet server after I've
gotten the last un-read message from this servers groups. Usually means
the UseNet Groups are updated whilst I'm reading what's on screen!!
