Can someone point me in the direction of an easy-to-follow tutorial on
getting SeaMonkey's e-mail client to download G-Mail files? I can't
seem to make anything work.
I'd also like to have SeaMonkey simultaneously delete the e-mail
messages from the G-Mail server but at the moment, I'd settle for just
getting the e-mail messages available via SeaMonkey's e-mail client.
Any assistance will be most appreciated.
The key is that you have to change a setting in Gmail. By default, it
doesn't allow you to download mail with an outside client like
SeaMonkey, you have to read messages in their webmail. But once you
change Gmail's setting to allow it, SM works fine.
After you log in to Gmail, click the gear icon at the upper right and
choose "Settings." From the categories at the top, choose "Forwarding
and POP/IMAP."
For item 1, choose "Enable POP for all mail."
For item 2, do what you like (I prefer "delete Gmail's copy").
If you want to use IMAP, you can enable that in item 3.
Click the "Save changes" button. Now you can download mail with SeaMonkey.
In the SeaMonkey account settings, enter your real-world name as Your
Name and your full Gmail address as Email Address. The first time you
try to download mail, SM will prompt you for your Gmail password. Enter
it, and check the box telling SM to remember your password.
You're done!
