Well, that's the problem with every free webmail service out there. You
either trust them or you don't. For that matter, you have to trust your
ISP anyway, or the hosting company if you run your own mail server.

With that said, I wasn't attempting to promote Gmail. It's just that I
discovered this quirk of their storage system, which sometimes annoy me
but recently proved useful, when I wanted to consolidate two different
backups of my mailboxes.

Removedupes looks pretty interesting, but I don't know how good it is at
comparing message bodies to trust it to automatically process hundreds
of messages at once. I'll have to try it next time I have a sync glitch
that duplicates messages. Hmmm... I wonder if it works with RSS feeds?
One of the feeds I subscribe (a high-traffic one) has this problem with
duplicate posts...
