You can't delete newsgroup messages (unless you know the secret code)
from SeaMonkey newsgroups.
Do you have View "All" or View "Unread" selected in your Search Bar?
That is the one under the Mail Toolbar.
Actually, based on a response posted in this ng on how to do it, I think
I made the change in about:config that let's me delete a message from
the computer. Useful when you arrange the most recent messages to appear
first and someone has a posting date of 2018 or similar.
Searchbar is set to view all messages, read and unread.
