using Lightning with Seamonkey and my Google calendar for quite a while,

Install 0.21pre from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/seamonkey/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/versions/
That fixed it for me on 2.17.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, hasn't worked here - I'm still
getting the password prompt recycling every time I try to log into my
Google calendar.
:( Oh well, back to the drawing board....
