You could try a free Usenet server, like Aioe or Eternal-September. The
latter requires registration, though.
When I first switched to Windows 8 I searched for a Usenet
reader that would access both free servers but only
SeaMonkey worked. I had been using eternal-september with a
password and localhost but I decided that without continued
localhost support I could get along with just aioe.
