I go back to the Netscape 4.? days.
Over the years I have done many tweaks to prefs.js and
user.js. Some were so I could locally duplicate things I had
set up for two visually impaired users - neither no longer
local. There are also unknown modifications done for
forgotten reasons.

As you might imagine some sites do not display well ;/
I want to preserve everything email or USENET related and
all my browser bookmarks.
Where should I be looking for reading material?
Thank you.

I just caught spelling error in subject line.
Would it be worthwhile to submit a wishlist bug to have
spell checker
work on subject line?

Richard,

Have you taken a look at MozBackup?

No as I had not heard of it - everything Mozilla always worked so well I never had to worry.
I just Googled and brought up the relevant pages - looks nice.
P.S. - I've regularly told OTHER people to do backups ;/

With this little progam you can select which parts of the
profile to backup, save the backup file.

Then, un-install all current versions of SeaMonkey, and all
remaining files and folders left behind. (Hint; just for
safety don't remove the profile folders, just rename them to
something else like profileOLD)

Once SeaMonkey is totally removed install a fresh copy of
the latest version you want, after install is complete, up
and running, and tested for your needs, close SeaMonkey
completely and run MozBackup to recover the saved profile.
When the saved profile is complete open SeaMonkey and select
Change Profile, select the saved profile that has been
backed up. Be sure you check the box to use the new profile
at start-up.

Now to read instructions first ;)
Thank you!
