Also in my quoted text above, it was "... the value you see for places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages." If places.history.expiration.max_pages is unset, which is the default, then places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages takes a value based on your system resources. (I don't know what the algorithm is.) Setting places.history.expiration.max_pages is the way to override that value.
