I updated (or so I thought) and have lost all my mail and address book entries.

I want to try and restore both of those from my backups.

Who, when, where, how, and what should I be looking for?

I can't see your user agent so I don't know what OS you are using.
With several Windows versions you can get to your profile by going to the 'run program' button and entering %appdata% as the program name.

That opens Windows Explorer at the right directory.

Then go to mozilla\seamonkey
You should have one profile directory called "gfkjrv5.default' (I made the first part up, it is a random string anyway). If you have multiple profiles then looking at their last-updated dates should let you find the one you want. If you have a new one and want an older one, I think "tools -> switch profile" should get you there (a guess, you could look it up). Otherwise get out of Seamonkey again, rename that profile (in case there is something there that you need) and try restoring the previous version.

If you use linux, go to your home directory, subdirectory ".mozilla" -> seamonkey and follow the same steps.

I'm going to be updating Seamonkey on this machine today. Maybe I should take a backup. now.
