Hi Frank, many thanks for your reply. I can't be sure but it would be a recent 
event i.e. within the last 2 (auto) updates, a lot of my email involves images 
so the problem is very noticeable and I would think it has only recently 
happened. The only extensions installed ar Adblock Plus, Chatzilla, DOM 
Inspector and JavaScript Debugger, the only one I knowingly use is Adblock 
Plus. In View I tried turning off "Display Attachments In Line" and it seems SM 
mail down loaded some images as separate files which could be viewed in my 
image viewer (Vueprint). Any help/suggestions would be appreciated, thanks
