Is it possible that you occasionally lose (by closing down) your Samba
connection while Seamonkey is still open and the files still in memory?

I don't think so. It is too consistent. I have tried restarting Seamonkey, My Computer and the Server. The problem persist across all of this. The Server has been up 6 days since I restarted it. My workstation has been up 7 days.

Opening Seamonkey before the Samba share is ready could also have
interesting side-effects.

I sometimes see Delayed Write error usually related to panacia.dat when a Samba Share is restarted Seamonkey is still running, but as far as I have been able to tell this does not affect anything, it's a spurious error. I am not seeing any errors on my workstation or in the Samba logs.

It is 15 years since I last saw that kind of corruption on a running
share.

I haven't seen this kind of behavior before either.

Back then I was retrieving .zip files under Windows and could
not process them under Linux - a somewhat different case.
