Hello all,
I have recently, with upgrade to 2.21, found that I cannot log into
mightytext.net. I have deleted cookies and that did not help. What is
happening is, after the log-in screen, the next page goes into a loop
and is not, so it appears, connect with the website.
I can connect using Chrome, but not SM even though I could previously.
I have tried using my Vista and XP machines to no avail.
Any ideas or suggestions to overcome this challenge??
Check whether by deleting cookies you inadvertently set the domain to
reject all cookies.
In the Cookie Manager, enter the domain name in the search window (just
above the list of domains on the left), and select "Permissions Only"
from the pull-down list between the search window and the list of
domains. If mightytext.net appears, click it once and inspect the
settings on the right, correct as necessary.
It's an easy mistake to make as the default seems to be "When removing,
block the listed websites from setting future cookies." But if you
uncheck the box, that seems to stick.
Paul,
Thank you for the input. Alas, mightytext does not show up in
permission, as thought. It only shows up under cookies because I had
only gone there just before reading the post.
If it's not listed under Permissions, that means you haven't told SM to
treat it any differently from your default settings. So if your default
is to accept session cookies (for example), SM will accept session
cookies for mightytext.net as well.
And if your Cookie Manager is showing cookies from that domain, then
yes, you're accepting their cookies and should be able to login. I think
we can rule out the possibility that you're rejecting their cookies,
which is the most common cause of login failures.
Any other ideas?
Sometimes sites need to set third-party cookies (or at least cookies
that SM considers to belong to a different domain). For example,
wellsfargo.com sets cookies when I login, but if I want to view their
personalized messages to me, I have to allow cookies from
messagecenter.wellsfargo.com as well. Since I couldn't get to their
message center without accepting a cookie from a domain I'd never
visited, it was pretty hard to figure out.
