Default is 10,000 ms, or 10 seconds. Reducing it to 5,000 should come to 5 seconds, right? I can definitely tell those apart.
But you're definitely right that humans can't tell between 5 and 10 ms; at best we can order events that are 20-25 ms apart (think of a runner safe or out at first, or a racquetball hitting the front or side wall first).
