I don't always need the Master invoked in a given session.
In about:config, is security.ask_for_password set to 0?
No...it's set to 2.
...and that was because I'd tried to have SM not ask for it unless it
hadn't been used for 240 minutes as an attempt to work around. I just
changed my pref setting to "first time it is needed" and it did change
to 0.
However - I just got another random request for my Master Password as I
was typing this...so SM is simply ignoring the Pref setting no matter
what it is, IMO.
Okay. I'd set that idle timeout back to 0, just to stick with defaults.
What about 'security.password_lifetime'? If that's a non-zero value,
that could very well be the issue. Another possibility could be that you
use Sync? I've read that the Master Password issue under Firefox seemed
to be related to Sync.
I don't use Synch, and never have.
security.password_lifetime is set to 240, presumably where I set it
trying to do the workaround. But since I changed my pref back to "first
time required" SM should be ignoring this...but it seems to be ignoring
my Password Prefs altogether.
