He is probably one of those folks that leaves computer on 24/7/365. Which is a Bad idea. Its one thing you run a Business and have the software and hardware setup to leave everything on 24/7/365/.

But an individual you don't stay up 24 hrs the best thing to do is turn your computer off when you not using for more than an hour. And when you go to bed.

The only exception, if your backing up a hard drive or some such activity or a very large piece of software that takes 8-10 hours to do. When a Computer is shut down and restarted it does a bunch of house keeping and updates Time and date information. The the longer it stays on more likely Memory corruption That would be cleared up if turned on.
