I tried Googling this for Windows XP and
supposedly "Tweakui" can do it - at least for Win
XP. (?)
I don't understand as to WHEN Windows takes over
or when SM is in control.
Preferences has SO MUCH in there - I cannot
remember ALL of it if I don't use it a lot.

Learned more !
I put the Default File as 'Downloads' - but then I
am given no way to change that.....so I clicked
"always ask first" and then it defaults to
"Downloads" - BUT - leaves me the option of
changing it !
OK - I have what I wanted - thru your help and and
some trial and error.
