I think the Nostalgy add-on might do what you want. With a single key press 'G' you can start to type the name of the folder you want to go to and a drop-down list appears. As you type the list gets shorter and you can pick a folder from the list to go to. Another function of the add-on is when you press 'S'. You get the same list of folders and you can pick a folder to stors the current message in. Very handy for keeping your emails organized.
