OK, sorry about his but my post above does not describe the problem accurately.
I have played about with this a bit more. Now I see that Seamonkey sync dialoge returns the error message 'invalid email address' after typing in the first character of any of my email addresses. If I ignore the error message and complete entering the email address it changes the error message returned to 'Unknown Error'. If I ignore the error message and complete the dialogue Seamonkey does not provide me with an option of proceeding.
