Ctrl- and Ctrl+ works great, if my hands are already on the keyboard.
Some software lets the mouse wheel serve this same function -- but
since SM uses the mouse wheel to scroll, which is pretty convenient, I
guess that option is out!

Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Mouse Wheel
That must be a default setting I had never noticed -- it works great -- my
right hand gets to stay on the trackball!
