Look at the source code (CTRL-U) of the incoming message and see if it 
specifies a size for the image. If the original
specified 50% and you paste the image without specifying its size, you'll get 
100% by default. Here's one example of how
HTML tells the browser to use an image:

If you use windows, right click on the image and choose 'send to email recipient' and you should be asked if you want to downsize the image. That is what I do for resending high res images.
