Flash is one of those plugins that does NOT have to be in the plugins directory of the browser. Have you tried testing your Flash installation at <http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/>? Also, is it possible you installed only the Internet Explorer version and not the version for browsers that use plugins. (I have no idea how IE does it; I don't use IE.)
