I am having EXACTLY the same issue - SM crashes when compacting (IMAP) then when I open messages in the inbox they display the content of another message. I also had some added issues, including at times not being able to open the compose window, or not being able to reply. I tried deleting SM and installing a new copy, but it didn't help.
