Hi,
Currently using ver 2.30 running under winxp sp3
When I try and back up the bookmarks, a file .json is saved ok but I
can't restore from it. I get an "unable to process the backup file"
message.
Is this a known problem
Any ideas please?
TIA
Bob
Yes, known issue. You should be making regular _complete_ backups of
your entire profile folder. If need be you can simply restore from the
backup the places.sqlite file into the profile folder to restore
bookmarks and history.
It doesn't take long to run a small batch file in Windows to backup
what's important to YOU. Or even use a program like "PureSync" which is
free to home users (donation requested by author). A simple batch file
like the following will do the job (only two lines required):
copy C:\Users\X\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\default\*.*
X:\SeaMonkey\MozBackup\Profiles
cd:c\
Where X = thumbnail, CD, DVD, or external disk drive.
Create the file with an ascii editor line Notepad, save, change name
from X.txt to X.BAT and move it to desktop.
Double click the icon after shutting down SM and viola - in less than 15
seconds the job is done!
This is a very bad piece of advice. It's an arcance approach (which I
like) but is not supportable for non-geeks.
Get a real backup program. There are several free ones although I have
a several-seat license for Todo Backup from
<http://www.todo-backup.com/>
It works.
If you do not have a backup strategy? Don't call me (not if) when your
system dies. Because it will. I've been doing this since 1982. Your
system WILL crash. If you have no backup and recovery strategy, well,
you get no sympathy here.
