No, they do not. The only similarity/commonality is they both use the same wire leaving your house. Once they get to a server somewhere, they become completely different. Mail is not News. Those of us who are familiar with newsgroups and Usenet don't really need or want a client that looks like an email program. In fact, it shouldn't, due to the many differences between mail vs. news. I have three newsreaders installed here and none of them look like an email client.
