Most banks I've come across which offer Trusteer Rapport don't actually make it compulsory to use.
A few years ago a colleague asked me if I could take a look at his personal laptop on which Windows kept crashing (blue screen; restart; do not pass go; do not save your data). It turned out to be Trusteer Rapport bringing the OS down. Uninstalled it and all was fine. I found reports of that having happened previously, but it was supposed to be fixed in the latest version at the time. Evidently not. I've never installed it myself!
