anyone have any pointers? or do i need to use a different browser for
my work?

Doesn't it already allow redirects? Can you give us a URL that redirects
with other browsers but fails to do so with SM?

I have set my Seamonkey [edit/preferences/appearance/content] to warn me
when a page attempts to redirect or reload a page... am hoping to find a
way to turn that off for my specific list of work related pages ... as
opposed to turning that preference off browser wide...

If that's not possible, does anyone have an argument against giving up
and turning it off browser wide?

Well I went to check what my setting are are for [edit/preferences/appearance/content] and mine is unchecked and has been for as long as the option has been available. I have been using Netscape since 1.x and I have seen no ill effects.
