My current version is 10.1.14.11, which according to Adobe is the latest
version that I can use. I'm running a Vista OS so the new Adobe DC is
not available for my machine, and plug-in checker was saying this before
Adobe DC ever came out.

Is this one that I'm just going to have to live with?

Any advise

Forget what plugin checker indicates.

You can't get anymore up to date than what is the most up to date.
