Its taken me a couple of days to notice this. I'm running 2.35 under
Arch Linux (using the Arch build). Most things seem to be working fine,
including fixing the problem with accepting self-signed certificates
which was crippling my use of most of the recent releases. However....
Noticed a few hours ago that spell checking is not working, or at least
is only working sometimes. Its certainly not working in the email
client, and only sees to be working on some browser input (seemed to be
working when I was searching Google, but not when I was entering a
message in a forum). I've made sure that the English (GB) dictionary is
installed, but haven't been able to update the en_gb language pack - the
link I use
(Indeftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/)
<ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/> never
connects and I don't know of any other source for the language packs.
I saw a while ago something about FTP access having been removed. The
content can still be accessed via HTTP:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/
If you have other similar links, just replace the initial "ftp:" with
"http:"
:) Thanks. Hadn't seen that. That link got me an updated en_GB language
pack...
I also can't find the settings for spell checking any more (Edit >
Preferences > Composition > spelling). I've not used it in a while, so I
don't know if it was there in other recent builds.
In SeaMonkey 2.33.1 on Windows, spell check settings are under Edit >
Preferences > Appearance > Spelling. Not sure if that might have
changed in 2.35 or on Linux. There is an option to control which types
of fields are checked on web pages:
- Nothing
- Only mutliline boxes (like you might have for forum posts)
- All boxes (including single-line boxes, like Google search)
Strangely, it sounds like you're getting single-line boxes checked but
not multiline, which isn't one of the options!
Thanks again. I guess it shows how long its been since I needed to check
whether the spell check was on or not. Found in the same place in the
Linux version.
Perhaps check the the language is set correctly for the boxes spell
checking doesn't work with - right click > Languages > there should be
a bullet point next to the active language.
Is anyone else seeing this probem, or is it something odd in my profile
(the one I'm using has been around for quite a while...).
I hadn't noticed any problems before, but quickly trying this out, I
did find the spell checking wasn't working in the main search box on
https://duckduckgo.com/. No language was selected for that box, and
after selecting a language, spell checking worked.
I think it may have been the language pack itself. It was still marked
as active and default, but after installing the new language pack and
checking that spell check was enabled for multi-line boxes, spell check
works again. Many thanks...
Paul.
