Have you tried running in Safe Mode?
That will help you figure out if one of your extensions is misbehaving,
or if there's other oddness lurking in your profile.
It's not always the case, but I've found it to be reasonably frequent
that if you're seeing performance-related behavior after an upgrade,
then it's often profile-related.
