The usual suspects are bad add-on/plug-in and corrupt profile.
Try creating a fresh profile, and start with it in safe-mode.
Can you reproduce the problem?

Sorry for the delay, but here the results
starting old profile in safe mode doesn't help: problem still exist
starting a new profile: problem is not present
in the new profile I added the pref.js from the old profile: problem is
present
So I have removed a line therein, tested , re-added it until I fall on
this
pref
user_pref("dom.disable_image_src_set", true);
removing it solved the problem;

Is it possible to remove the line in the old profile and have it work?
Also, how do you find this line in the new profile?
Enter about:config in the address bar, dismiss the dire warning of
disaster, search for "dom.disable_image_set", without the quotes and it
should be set to false as default.
