I'm experiencing the same problems with everything I have connected to
the Internet for the last two days. Firefox, Thunderbird, Pan
Newsreader, VLC, SeaMonkey when I was running some tests. Even my
software management application won't connect to one repository.

Weren't you also complaining a popup malware problem? I just spent some
time clearing out a similar problem on a client's computer and is was
infected with shopperZ malware. Royal PITA to rid. Maybe your issue is
not SM.

Nope, that wasn't me.

Yep, sorry my mistake.

I am also blessed with Verizon s/High/Slow/ speed Internet DSL and your issue may have nothing to do with you.

I had issues with intermittent connections to us.archive.ubuntu.com as well as more "obscure" domains such as google.com and yes verizon.com! After a year of arguing with custom support I was able to point them to the real problem, hardware failure in at their center for the area with the diag evidence I had amassed.

Take care,
