Because port 25 IS the default port for a SMTP server. 587 is the
default for SSL, so the reason is hat you had the wrong security setting.

Jonathan, SM was telling me that the Default port was 587. Somewhere
along the line that port had been set (presumably by me!! ;-[ ) to 25
and it had functioned for many years, just in the last couple of weeks
the e-mail sending had become intermittent!!

I haven't tried tonight, but I'm half expecting if I set the outgoing
port to 25, again, it would work!


So what is the Connection Security for the server? If none then it would be 25. If StartTLS or SSL then it would be 587 by default.
