Seamonkey v2.39 newsgroup Compose: window, From: field
Seems to be an unwritten law that a space is mandatory between the
poster's name and the eMail address. Sillyness.
Is it even an "unwritten law" or is it actually a Standard?? Is it just
a SeaMonkey thing or have you tried in ThunderBird and/or M.S. Outlook
and/or whatever??
From a quick look, it appears to be written in RFC 5322 Section 3.4
<https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5322#section-3.4>. Behaviour with
non-standard input (i.e. with no space) may vary between different
clients, and maybe servers if that string is used directly as the From:
header.
When the headers is derived from an "identity" configured in Mail &
Newsgroup Account Settings (where name and email are entered
separately), SeaMonkey is responsible for correctly formatting the
header. I guess when entered directly into the From: field, the user is
responsible for correctly formatting it.
Mark.
Thanks for that, Mark.
