Yes, I'd say it is an extension misbehaving.

Strange. I tried disabling everything in the addon manager, even the ones that are installed with Seamonkey itself. No change....

There is no standard extension that when disabled would stop SeaMonkey for working. The only "standard extensions" installed by default on Ubuntu is just ChatZilla and DOM Inspector, neither of which is essential to SeaMonkey

Still don't know what the problem was/is. I've ended up copying the profile from the desktop machine, then replacing a few files with those from the laptop - abook.mab for addresses, places.sqlite for the bookmakrs.

:) It would be nice to see an updated list of what files Seamonkey uses. I've got some in the profile directory which haven't been changed in several years, and I'm never quite sure which files are needed. signons.sqlite doesn't look as though it is the current password file, so I hope I've got all the passwords I need transfered. I've still got a backup of the profile from the laptop, so I guess I can still pull more files out of it if I find something missing.

Would still like to know what caused the original problem....

Paul.
