Since updating to SeaMonkey 2.40, I notice that a number of Web sites
(but not all) require me to select the Logon, OK, or other such button
twice after entering my user ID and password. One such site is
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>; another is
<http://finance.yahoo.com/p?d=v1&k=pf_1>.
Is this a SeaMonkey problem or merely coincidental changes to those sites?
What was the previous version you were using? I'm using 2.39 on Windows
and seeing similar behaviour with the bugzilla.mozilla.org, but it seems
to depend on the exact sequence.
Sequence 1:
1. Opened <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>
2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi>, but still showing
the login form
4. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in" again
5. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi> and I was logged
in (on second attempt)
6. Logged out
Sequence 2:
1. Opened <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>
2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. Loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi> and I was logged in
(on first attempt)
4. Logged out
Sequence 3:
1. Used the "back" button to get back to
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>
2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi>, but still showing
the login form
4. Repeated 2 and 3 a few times; I was logged in on the 4th attempt
5. Logged out
Sequence 4:
1. Deleted all mozilla.org cookies
2. Opened <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>
3. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
4. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi>, but still showing
the login form
5. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in" again
6. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi> and I was logged
in (on second attempt)
7. Logged out
Sequence 5:
1. Deleted all mozilla.org cookies
2. Opened <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1>
3. Force-reloaded the page (Ctrl+Shift+R)
4. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
5. It loaded <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/index.cgi> and I was logged
in (on first attempt)
6. Logged out
It seems something odd is going on, possibly related to cookies and/or a
token in the form (which can help guard against things such as CSRF
attacks and submitting the same form several times).
If you were previously using 2.39 without any problem, it may just be
coincidence that the website has changed recently. Or perhaps you didn't
happen to hit the sequence to trigger this. Or perhaps something else
you did at the same time has caused this effect - a couple of thoughts
are if you deleted cookies or changed the default permissions.
Mark.
