I am still using SeaMonkey v2.22.1. I had updated to a later version
quite awhile back but had problems which led me to go back to v2.22.1.

I have now decided that I really need to update as there are websites
that don't work properly with this version which was released 28 months
ago.

With all the updates that have come out between 2.22.1 and 2.40, I'm
wondering if there are any potential problems I might encounter when I
do this? Constructive advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Backup your profile folder(s) before upgrading. You may also want to make sure you have a copy of the 2.22.1 installer, just in case you need to go back to it to recover anything which might happen to get lost or corrupted in the process.

If you have a master password set for the password manager, change it to "" (i.e. blank) before the upgrade (use the "Change Password" option; the "Reset Password" button erases all stored passwords). You can set a master password again after the upgrade. This seems to be necessary because the format of some files changed between versions 2.30 to and 2.31, and they can't be converted to the new version if a master password is set. For more info see:

(Don't just copy the steps in my first post there though - removing the master password before updating is a much easier workaround which I didn't come across until later!)
