PEBCAK on my part.  I had meant to say that Win 7 goes through 2020.


Windows 10 end-of-life is currently October 2025. But don't be surprised
if it is a "subscription service" by then. Pay every year.

So far, Microsoft has been promoting Win 10 as essentially a "rolling release", and marketing insists that Win 10 will be the "last release of Windows". They also insist that a Windows license will be good for the life of the machine, although tied to the machine itself, and not transferable to another machine, whether it's an OEM license or not.

It wouldn't surprise me if they figure out a way of doing Windows as a paid subscription service, although it's likely they would do something that's essentially a grandfathering, where installations already in service would be exempt, but where new installations would have a slightly different licensing, one that requires periodic payment.
