I'm not seeing what's worth laughing out loud about. What does it mean to not have "a functioning LAN"? An entry-level NAT router with integrated 4-port switch + 802.11n Wi-Fi costs around 30-50 USD/Euros. A basic switch costs less than a dinner at the restaurant. If having "a functioning LAN" solved your issue, then maybe you should consider having one.
