Shouldn't be a problem to either copy your profile to the new machine
or restore via MozBackup. Copying the profile is probably more
foolproof. Clear your cache and then copy the profile to a USB drive.
Launch SM on the Win 10 install, figure out where it created the new
profile. Then, simply copy the old profile to the location of the new
profile and overwrite it.
I agree with all that except the "figure out where it created the new
profile" part. If you tell SM where to put the profile(s) you won't
need to figure anything.
First, make the run line in the shortcut look like this;
H:\SM246-Win\seamonkey.exe -Profilemanager
Then SM will always start with profile manager, so there will never be
any question regarding what profile you are using, and no more "lost
mail".
Once you locate a functioning profile, copy it to somewhere you want it.
The profile is just a sub-directory tree. There is nothing sacred
about the name of the top directory, so give it a name that is
meaningful to you.
Then when profile manager opens, tell it to create a new profile, and
when it asks what to call it, tell it the name you created, and when it
asks where, lead it to the profile you just placed, and have it "create"
that. And then go delete the previous.
I use a desktop at home and a laptop on the road. I have several
profile and mail trees, and the mail trees are separate from the
profiles. I copy those to the laptop before I leave and copy them back
when I return. It is like frequently moving to a new machine.
I also copy them to other desktops for redundancy and backup. Copy is
the most practical "backup utility" there is for working content, or for
moving to a new machine. And, if you have not altered the structure of
the sub-directories, you can have "copy" copy only newer files.
