Until bug 1347857 is resolved which depends on bug 1350152 (or will be a duplicate if no changes are needed in SeaMonkey) I wouldn't advise starting anything but the browser first in 2.48+

1. Install SeaMonkey
2. Start SeaMonkey
3. Use Edit > Preferences > Appearance
4. Set "When SeaMonkey starts up, open" to Mail & Newsgroups.
5. Remove the check mark for Browser.
6. Close SeaMonkey and restart.

Yes, Walt, I was thinking the same thing, but then I re-read the post you responded to and saw the s/he wanted to *install just the email client* not just only have the e-mail client open up at start-up, i.e. maybe install Browser & Mail/News Client then delete the Browser.
