You mean the icons in that column rather than the icon at the top of the column, right?
In my copy of Seamonkey the icons in the leftmost column are either present or not and indicate the given thread has replies which will be shown as threaded when open.
Compares to T-bird, the Seamonkey tables are very compressed and hard to read. In particular the icons are nearly impossible to distinguish. When new posts are available, the icons in the groups list show a microscopic green arrow that I have a very hard time making out. In T-bird instead of the tiny green arrow, the entire text of the group name would become green when a new message came in.
