Try putting
#msgHeaderView {font-size: larger !important}
in <yourprofiledir>/chrome/userChrome.css. If it doesn't exist, create it with
file manager and any plain text editor. font-size can be any CSS size you
choose, e.g. 12pt, 18px, 4mm, .4in, smaller, medium, etc. The default you find
hard to see now is likely 13px.
