In the olden days... one used to move the x from the far right onto each individual tab by adjusting an ABOUT:CONFIG setting... my memory banks are dusty...

maybe someone remembers what we set this one to?

browser.tabs.closeButtons;3

Sean according to http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries#Browser. you want that set to 1

That page lists the operations for 0, 1, 2 and 3.

Unfortunately, all the keys listed in the left-hand column have spaces after the periods, so you can't find this one by searching for "browser.tabs.closeButtons"; you have to search for "browser. tabs. closeButtons" instead.

Hmm!! Paul, I copied the "browser.tabs.closeButtons" (without the inverted commas) from your post, started up the "about:config" screen in the browser, pasted the "browser.tabs.closeButtons" (without the inverted commas) in the search bar and was left with two options, browser.tabs.closeButtons and services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.tabs.closeButtons. Notice no intervening spaces

I don't know why you had that problem, but I have seen it in some of my prefs previously!!

I was referring to the linked web page, where presumably you would look first for guidance.

Ah!! O.K! So that may have been how I ended up with the "browser. tabs. closeButtons" pref some time ago.
