Wow, that's fascinating. Looking at the options in SM, I don't see "en"
at all, only the various dialects. Must be a holdover from an earlier
version.
And you're right, the site does have an error in its coding: if I
manually enter the URL
<https://support.viki.com/hc/en/articles/115011255127-Viki-Comment-Policy>,
which apparently doesn't exist, I'm not redirected to
<https://support.viki.com/hc/en-us/articles/115011255127-Viki-Comment-Policy>,
but to
<https://support.viki.com/hc/ko/articles/115011255127-Viki-Comment-Policy>.
Switching to IE 11, I find I did have "en-us" selected, not "en." Making
the substitution, I get the Korean page just as in SM. So their redirect
is miscoded from what an ordinary user would expect: "if the requested
language page [here, en] doesn't exist, serve the Korean page." The
ordinary user would expect a missing en page to fall back to en-us, the
nearest match.
Thanks for putting me on the right track. Now I can talk intelligently
to tech support for the site.
