I have several accounts configured in Seamonkey mail. A gmail account
(my main email account), a gmx.com account (kept as a spam trap) and an
account with a small fairly local Linux server. This last one I use
mainly to receive status messages from a number of small business
servers that I'm responsible for monitoring.
Recently I changed the server software on the system I have an account
with from SME Server to Nethserver. Done because SME development has
slowed to a crawl and I needed better server security. Both server OS's
are based on Centos. I migrated existing accounts to the Nethserver
machine and have been using it quite successfully with the existing IMAP
account. I have several filters on the account to allow me to more
easily monitor the important emails while just glancing at the headers
of the ones that are less important.
On Friday, I had to revert to the older SME server due to a problem with
Nethserver. Hopefully that problem will be sorted out early next week,
but going back to the old software has caused a strange problem.
Suddenly, all the filters I have on that account no longer work on
receiving new mail. All the messages end up in the inbox. If I then
select "run filters on folder" from the Tools menu, they run without any
problems. But I cannot get them to run automatically any more. This is
happening on both Seamonkey and a copy of Thunderbird on one of my
desktop machines. Exactly the same in both instances - the filters run
without problems when selected from the menu, but do not run on receipt
of new mail.
Has anyone seen similar problems suddenly happening when an account is
changed? Any ideas of how to fix it? It seems quite specific to this
account. My other two accounts have filters (in the case of the gmail
account, a lot of them..), and they continue to run correctly and
automatically. Even stranger, the initial change in server software did
not affect the filters on the account at all. Only reverting to the
older software seems to have triggered it.
Paul.
