If you have mail converted to plain text, javascript cannot be used.
I sometimes have to use HTML format. :(
Even with HTML format javascript doesn't work in the mail client window.
IIRC the option to enable javascript in the mail client "died" in NS
Navigator.
Bingo. That is where I got confused since I was a Netscape (RIP) user
